Four Fair Trade Days at HKUST
(Four Fair Trade Days at HKUST)4 x 8 hours of (almost) endless standing,
Explaining, teaching, preaching, sharing
To some willing ears,
And some not so willing.
Many approached us with warm looks;
Even more passed by with no looks.
But I refused to be frozen,
Neither by them nor the wind.
Yet it was not easy to start with:
First day up in the atrium,
Our goodies had to find shelter
From the late autumn sun.
Thanks to Iris & the Dancing Club,
We got to swap places,
And had most rewarding hours,
Charming enchanting professors & students.
But On the second, third, and fourth day,
We were asked to move down to LG5,
A morgue-like passage to the Food Court,
Headed by what else but dear old ‘Mac’.
Dear old Mac and Fair Trade
May come together some day.
Not as yet, though. It’s hard
To switch from Coke to Tablea …
But what did I see on the third day
Two minutes before closing?
A young lady carrying a carrying bag
And a bag of Mac Eat and a bag of Mac Drink,
She looked and looked at our goodies,
Took all bags in one hand and dug for her purse.
As she paid me for a mini ‘Small Purple Rosebuds’,
She whispered: it’ll turn cold tomorrow, remember to put on more …
